Meet Joe: LANX Events Manager

Name:
Joe Thompson

Joined LANX in:
I joined LANX in January 2019.

I am responsible for:
I’m responsible for all booking and managing all events, markets and shows LANX attend. This year we are about to embark on 40 major shows amongst 340 markets and expos (written before the Coronavirus!).

The best thing about working at LANX is:
The fact that we work hard and play harder. As a young company, we have to work extremely hard and long hours to make the business successful and grow. This hard work never goes unrecognised by our boss and leader Marv. From taking us to random BBQ’s by the river to Skiing in Morzine, he certainly gives back to his hard-working staff.

My favourite moment in Football History:
Being a Blackburn Rovers fan they have been few and far between in the last few years. A few spring to mind...... The Benni McCarthy screamer against Arsenal, David Bentley’s Hat trick against Man United and David Beckham’s freekick against Greece. But, being I was only 2 when Rovers lifted the Premier League I would have to say my favourite memory would be when we beat a very good Spurs side to lift the Worthington Cup in our first season back in the Premier League. With injuries to our rock at the back Craig Short, our captain Gary Flitcroft and the maestro Tugay, a win seemed bleak but goals from Cole and Jansen and a MOTM performance from Brad Friedel saw us lift the trophy. As a young Rover that was an amazing moment.

The most recent gig I saw was:
The Libertines @ The Victoria Warehouse....... Absolute CARNAGE!!!

The worst date I've ever been on was:
I was once asked to go to the cinema by a mate from School. On arrival at the train station in Blackburn, I was greeted by a number of friends, one of which was a girl who’d I got close to over the previous couple of months. What I didn’t realise was that I was being set me up on a date with a said girl. I was unaware of the situation and at the time I was seeing another girl from school...... the two girls were rather close friends. Let's say the film ended and it was one of the most awkward rejections in history.

My favourite LANX shoe is:
This is a tough one. I have a few in my wardrobe.... it would have to be a tie between my Hopkins Navy and Dickinson Tan. Love them both.

Favourite other market trader:
Another tough question..... made quite a few friends this past year. I would have to say Don from Altrincham Market. That guy is the definition of a Legend. It was always a good laugh when we’ve shared stands...... especially when City have had a stinker. It’s always VAR’s fault.

Outside of LANX I’m into:
As you can probably guess I’m very much into my football. Playing the sport not so much these days but still love to pretend to be an expert on the subject after a few sherbets. When work and funds dictate I love going to gigs and festivals, nothing better than standing in a muddy field covered in piss and beer watching your favourite bands. Spending quality time with friends, family and the Mrs as well. I know very cliché right.

My office nickname is:
Bestie (George Best)

My best joke is:
I went to the garden centre today to buy a Christmas Tree. The assistant asked me:
“Will you be putting it up yourself?”
I replied:
“No, I’ll be putting it up in the living room”
