SOLD OUT
The limited-edition Greenwood '97 Jersey has now sold out. Fear not, you can still shop our full range of made in England rugby shirts below.
We’ve always been serious about rugby. From backing top clubs to working closely with players, it’s part of our DNA. We’re proud to extend our range of made-in-England LANX Rugby Shirts to honour an iconic time in rugby history that sparked a love for an equally iconic shirt: the 1997 British & Irish Lions jersey, the holy grail of all rugby shirts.
It’s a shirt for the fans, the players, and everyone who knows that rugby is more than a game; it’s a sport built on resilience, grit, and pride.
INSPIRED BY AN ICON
The 1997 tour was the Lions’ first of the professional era. Written off as underdogs, the squad pulled off a historic 2–1 Test series win, and it was only the third time a touring side had won a test series in South Africa. Led by Martin Johnson and coached by Fran Cotton, Ian McGeechan, and Jim Telfer, the team became legends, and their legacy lives on through the now-iconic Living with Lions TV documentary.
The 1997 jersey marked the end of an era: one of the last to be made from heavy cotton before the game moved fully into high-performance wear. Its design still holds up today: classic red, clean white collar, and the first signs of professionalism and tradition colliding together.
The 1997 British & Irish Lions also had a strong Lancashire presence, with multiple players from the county making the squad, further cementing our connection with this revered team. Key players included Fly-Half Paul Grayson, and the namesake of the shirt: Centre, Will Greenwood.
We were recently proud to announce that Will joined the LANX family as our first official Brand Ambassador. Just like the LANX team, he believes in doing things properly: with passion, precision, and pride in your roots. Having this shirt named after Will was a no-brainer.
A PROPER COLLABORATION
Once again, our shirts are made in collaboration with Jim’s Jerseys and manufactured in Staffordshire by a third-generation family-run factory. They are a proud addition to our ever-growing Made in England accessories collection.
- Crafted from 330gsm polycotton
- Classic cotton drill placket collar adorned with a gold LANX Bull embroidery
- LANX logo on the right breast
- Lions-inspired Lancashire Rose crest logo on the left breast
- ‘Lancashire Prominent’ across the chest, a play on the original ‘Scottish Provident’
It’s a shirt that feels as good as it looks, with a passion for the game stitched into each one.
