365 IS WATERPROOF | LANX TRIED, SATRA TESTED

Our 365 collection has seen it all. We put it through its paces across everything the British countryside can throw at it and beyond: rain, desert, ice, the lot.

Our customers have enjoyed its get-up-and-go spirit for three years, but it's time to take things up a notch. To do that, LANX has partnered with SATRA to enhance the 365 collection's waterproof performance.

The 365 collection is now waterproof. Let’s break the ice.

WHO ARE SATRA?

SATRA — founded in 1919 as the Shoe & Allied Trades Research Association — are the world's foremost footwear testing and research institution, with over 100 years in the field. In their words: "we don't just test to the standards, we set the standards." If anyone was going to test our 365 collection, it was going to be them.

Every silhouette in the men's and women's 365 range went through SATRA's Dynamic Footwear Water Penetration Test — an internationally recognised way of measuring how water-resistant a shoe really is. The process is straightforward: each shoe is fixed into a machine, submerged in water, and flexed thousands of times while it's checked for any sign of water getting through. It’s easy to follow this SATRA test: Set Up; Submersion; Flexing; Duration.

THE STORY BEHIND THE 365 COLLECTION

Our 365 collection has been a core collection across the men’s and women’s range for the last three years, but the concept began a few years prior to its release. Rather selfishly, the 365 collection was designed with the LANX team in mind.

Picture the scene: we were standing in a muddy events field back in 2019, sharing a post-work beer, and noticed all our pristine LANX shoes had taken a beating from the wet and muddy fields. Our events team had been doing their best to keep their shoes clean and tidy during the events season, but (if truth be told) they were fighting a losing battle. So, after a few more beers, the decision was made: we needed footwear that could handle harsh British weather and all that it chucked at us.

The original working title was "Business Anywhere" — the thinking being, if we were going through this, so was every other stallholder and business out there. As the designs and samples took shape, so did the realisation that these styles weren't just for staff. They could be for anyone, worn any day of the year. The penny dropped, and the name changed to 365 — referencing their ability to be worn anywhere, for anything, all year round.

VIBRAM’S GHIACCIO SOLE - THE ONLY CHOICE

When selecting a sole, we went to some of the best suppliers in the world. None stood out like Vibram.

Founded in 1937 by Vitale Bramani, Vibram is a family-owned Italian company credited with inventing the first rubber lug sole. On a trip with mountaineering friends, Bramani lost six comrades whose studded leather boots didn't have the grip to hold the cliff face. He realised climbers of the time were poorly shod, and approached Pirelli — the Italian tyre brand — to design a better sole using vulcanised rubber technology. Soon after, Vibram soles were on mountaineering boots worldwide. The first successful ascent of K2, in July 1954, was made wearing Vibram rubber.

The sole we chose is called "Ghiaccio" — Italian for "ice." It's a trekking-inspired unit built for support and stability, with Arctic Grip technology for traction on cold, icy or snowy ground. The Icetrek rubber compound resists fuel oil and won't scratch indoor surfaces, so it holds up wherever you're wearing it.

Vibram’s name carries weight in the footwear world, and is a name we’re proud to see stamped on the side of the soles. Essentially, they were the only choice for the collection - offering a blend of versatility, durability, and longevity for wear and repair.

THE SILHOUETTES

The 365 range currently comprises shoes, derby boots, hiker boots and Chelsea boots across a variety of countryside-toned colours:

It’s not just new styles and colours that have been added to the range over the years - the technical capabilities have also continuously developed too. Most recently, we’ve revised the seam-sealing tape behind stitch lines, and we’ve improved the membrane lining of the styles, all to improve their performance.

The SATRA tests are the cherry on top of a few years of tweaking, modifying, refining, and more than a few cups of tea in between.

CLEAN, MAINTAIN, PROTECT

A routine of cleaning and protecting the leather will ensure your boots continue to shrug off wet weather and big puddles for years to come.

CLEAN: Clear any loose dirt with a soft brush or cloth, and apply the cleaning solution to fully clean the leather.

MAINTAIN: Once dry, refresh the leather with a conditioner or suede brush where appropriate.

PROTECT: Apply the protector across the leather to protect from water damage, preserve the colour, and extend the life of the shoe.

The relevant shoe care bundle for the style you’re interested in can be found on the product page, or in the cart by adding a product to your basket.

SHAPED BY THE LANCASHIRE LANDSCAPE

The styles themselves are named after local rural towns, reservoirs and landscapes that LANX staff are connected to, further cementing their position in our everyday lives. We’re extremely lucky to be located in an area surrounded by proper Lancashire countryside - forests, hills, rivers and valleys - all offering the ideal testing ground to take the 365 collection for a spin.

Right on our doorstep sits the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s Bowland Knotts, Whitewell, Dunsop Bridge, and - where we shot this campaign - Langden Brook. They’re names that won't mean much until you've actually stood in the middle of them, boots deep in whatever the terrain's decided to throw at you that day.

If you've never been, it's well worth a visit, provided you take your 365s along for the journey.
