The summer event season is well and truly under way for LANX, with our team travelling up and down the country bringing our footwear to the hands of the many. With LANX’s origins starting with small market stalls around the North West it feels like we are getting back to our roots, setting up in all weathers, sometimes in the middle of muddy fields as the light disappears, it’s something we have always loved doing. Last week brought us back home to Lancashire, god’s own country, to the Royal Lancashire Show and how good it felt to be back on home soil. For the first time in as long as we can remember it didn’t rain!! Not once, ALL weekend. In fact, the sun was blazing down on Friday and aside from the odd muttering of ‘it’s too hot’, spirits were high.
Established way back in 1767 the Royal Lancashire Show was first held at Stanley Park in Blackpool. The opening of Blackpool Zoo in 1972 forced a move and the show has since been held at many places around the county. It has, in recent years, found it’s home at Salesbury Hall in Ribchester, a mere 15-minute drive from LANX HQ in Whalley.
The LANX marketing team headed down for the day on Friday, tasked with connecting with other local businesses and finding a bull with big balls (more on that later). After a quick scout round the site and a few iced coffee’s we convinced Evan, our Partnerships Manager, that him having a go on the zipline would make for some great content. The lovely owner of Skyfall mobile zip wire hire wholly agreed and Evan was fitted with his harness and led to the top of the rig for his ride. After giving the harness a little test and satisfied it would hold his weight off he went with perhaps just a little scream on the way down, a great way to start day.
There was no time for Evan to recover as the next stop was the Bowland Brewery beer tent and with a pint of their most brewed ale, Hen Harrier, in hand Evan had a chat with the Brewery Manager, Drew. Usually based at the Brewery’s home in Holmes Mill, Clitheroe, Drew began filling us in on their latest development, reuseable event cups, a great way to reduce their use of single use plastics when exhibiting at events.
Finishing his pint and stopping to take in the fantastic Accrington Pipe Band we then set off on our most important mission … the bulls’ balls! Here at LANX our mascot is the British White Bull, this particular breed of bull originates from our home village of Whalley and happens to have the largest testicles in the bull world. Unfortunately, there were no British White Bulls in attendance but we did find a close second and what a cracking pair the lad had! (zooming in on a bull’s balls has to be a personal career highlight)
Next, we were off to say a quick a hello to Tom who owns The Whalley Wine Shop and Bar, a neighbouring business, located on King Street in Whalley. Chatting through all things wine, fizz and beer and giving us the heads up about an exciting Gin collaboration they have in the pipeline, it was great to catch up and there will be more from Tom very soon – watch this space!
A great day had by all, meeting customers, chatting all things LANX, enjoying some much-needed sunshine and even indulging in a beer or two, The Royal Lancashire Show was an event to be remembered, at least for Evan anyway!
